the water was like glass,
clean and still and clear.
in the reflection was someone new
staring back in fear.

there’s hurt in her eyes,
but a scarlet smile on her lips.
crimson streaks on her thighs
below white scars on her hips.
under a blanket of lies,
nests shame she keeps.

as my tears hit the water,
ripples wrinkled the world inside.
each drop barely made a splatter,
but the small waves magnified.

the irony-
what a mess one touch can make.
i looked at her in disdain,
she will never be the same again.
